Frank Pina is a principal of Mercadien, P.C., Certified Public Accountants and serves as a leader of its Forensic and Litigation Support Practice. He is a certified public accountant and fraud examiner with extensive experience helping individuals, closely-held corporations, emerging growth companies and international corporations across various industries manage business controversy, execute deals and maintain compliance.
Frank is also certified in financial forensics and a chartered global management accountant. Mr. Pina is highly regarded in the fields of corporate accounting and forensic investigations, fraud detection, bankruptcy and reorganization, civil and criminal litigation support, and other dispute consulting areas. He has broad experience assisting legal counsel and their clients with a variety of forensic engagements involving false financial reporting, misappropriation of assets, vendor fraud, lost profits analysis, rebate payment evaluations, compliance audits and contract disputes,
inspections and assessments. He also advises companies and nonprofit organizations on resolution strategies resulting from purchase price and real property tax disputes, business divorces and a variety of compliance-related issues.
Formerly of Deloitte’s forensic and dispute services practice, Frank was responsible for developing investigative strategies, conducting forensic interviews, background searches and document reviews and tracing hidden assets to detect patterns and schemes of fraudulent activity to uncover complex financial crimes. His experience working with large international law firms and federal, state and local law enforcement and government agencies, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, NJ Attorney General’s Office and Philadelphia City Controller’s Office, enables him to offer clients in both public and private sectors sound financial and forensic investigative insight and expertise.
Mr. Pina serves as vice president of the board of directors and chairman of the speakers committee of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Philadelphia chapter, and is also a member of the national and local chapters of the Turnaround Management Association and Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, and the AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services community. Frank is a frequent presenter and author on a variety of topics related to fraud detection, corporate investigations, forensic interviewing and internal controls. In 2014, he was honored to win top 40 under 40 emerging business leader awards from both NJBIZ and the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Frank is an active volunteer with numerous civic organizations, including Philadelphia VIP, the Union League of Philadelphia, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern NJ, The Mercadien Foundation, and Our Lady of Fatima Church. A graduate of Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Accounting and Marketing, Frank is a life-long resident of Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife and son.
